I'm talking about dates today. I'm not referring to a lunch date or a hot steamy date with flowers and dinner but the little wrinkly sweet dried fruit that have some amazing health benefits and are full of nutrients, fiber, and antioxidants. They are rich in minerals such as calcium, iron, phosphorus, sodium, magnesium, potassium, sulfur, and zinc. Dates also contain vitamins such as vitamin K, A, and B6.
So many recipes call for loads of sugar, and more sugar on top. Dates have a low glycemic index which is great for people sensitive to sugar handling or those with diabetes. They are so versatile and easy to add to most anything that calls for a sweetener. Date paste is so easy to make and use. As well as being full of nutrients and lots of natural sugars, dates boost bone health and give you a natural energy boost pre or post workout.
I use dates in all sorts of treats and they work great for flavor and a binder in no-bake bites, on rice cakes with nut butter and with my fruit & yogurt concoctions. You can put them in smoothies to sweeten it up. I even love to just dip them in nut butter. Yummy!
Dates do contain quite a few calories cause they are dried fruit so eating in moderation is ideal. Dates are so versatile and easy to incorporate into your diet. Be creative. Dates are a good addition to a healthy lifestyle.
